I feel its useless in its present form, but I am going to try to put on some kind on metal top on the working surface, because, as a hobbiest I do have many possible uses for such a tool. The table on this molded plastic device is warped and does not do what you imagine it will with any kind of acuracy. I tried it with polystyrene strip stock and it ruined it.
Too much play in the mount to really keep a nice edge, not recommeneded for anything much heavier than balsa.
I immediately went to work using the round over bit. That's bad. She walked me thru the new method and, magical presto, it worked. Monday morning I called and got a nice lady named Mary on the phone.
I ordered the Dremel 231 shaper/router and received it almost overnight. It does create a lot of sawdust, but the end product is fast and perfect. Thank you Mary. That's good.
She explained to me Dremel had changed the method of attaching the tool to the table and had not updated the instructions, and they had received hundreds of call just like mine. The sawdust does drop onto (and into) the tool mechanism so I am careful to use compressed air to remove it regularly. I rushed to my shop and, following the instructions in the accompanying manual immediately realized it doesn't go together as described. Unfortunately this happened on a Saturday morning and I had to wait for Dremel's customer service department to open Monday morning.
The height adjustment is not very easy to use. This is a pretty good table for routing or sanding. I would have been willing to spend a bit more for a better engineered table. However, the table worked very well once it was "locked in". I wish Dremel had some longer drum sander accessories. This would make a great little spindle sander on small projects.
Have used this to custom make teak and mahogany touches on boat. Restoring 20' sailboat. Works great for detailing.
